Cinematic vision gets rolling
Keyboardist, composer and Edition Records label boss Dave Stapleton has been working on a new band/album project under the moniker Slowly Rolling Camera which steers his extensive writing and playing skills directly into the lush down tempo jazz-dance territory of 4Hero, Bonobo and The Cinematic Orchestra. Joining forces with producer Deri Roberts, vocalist-lyricist Dionne Bennett and drummer Elliot Bennett the band’s debut album also features Phronesis bassist Jasper Høiby, Troyka guitarist Chris Montague, plus contributions from saxophonist Mark Lockheart (Polar Bear) and trumpeter Neil Yates alongside an eight-piece string section.
Their self-titled album, which was released earlier this week on 27 January, gets its official live launch next Tuesday, 4 February at Pizza Express Jazz Club, Soho with a line up that includes saxophonist Ben Waghorn, bassist Aidan Thorne and guitarist Chris Montague. And as an added bonus each audience member will be given a free copy of the album on CD. The band then head out on a series of tour dates at the following venues: In Store at Rise Music, Bristol (5 piece, 30mins set) (16 Feb); Four Bars, Dempsey’s, Cardiff (7 Mar); Rich Mix, London (30 April); Band on the Wall, Manchester (15 May – Free Entry) and Arena Theatre, Wolverhampton (6 Jun).
