Improv giant Evan Parker’s Might I Suggest mini-festival kicked off yesterday in its fourth year at London’s Vortex jazz club continues until 1 February; it follows 2013’s popular run of performances in collaboration with the ICP (Instant Composers Pool) Orchestra from Amsterdam. Parker, who celebrates his 70th birthday in April, kicks off 2014 in style with the festival focusing on the French musicians he has collaborated with over the years.

Launching with bassist Joelle Leandre,multi-instrumentalist Alex Ward, saxophonist Michel Doneda, guitarist John Russell and drummer Roger Turner on 28 January, it continues with Christina Wodraschka, bassist Guillaume Viltard and Evan Parker (29 Jan); Tony Hymas duo and pianist Benoit Delbecq with Evan Parker (30 Jan); Trance Map with special guest trumpeter Peter Evans (31 Jan) and closes with Whahay featuring bassist Paul Rogers, saxophonist Robin Fincker, and drummer Fabien Duscombs followed by Paul Rogers and guests (1 Feb).
