Words

A new and constantly evolving anti-jazz/rap/funk/rock collective. Bring your own take and experiences, and mash it together live with frantic arm waving, much excitement and general hilarity.

Sketched heads and feel, constant improvisation, smart raps, loose-fit verses and some mighty big grooves.

Originally from the north west of England The Initiative is now a collective of up to fifteen musicians, spread as far afield as London & even LA. Each player brings ideas from their own backgrounds, whether that be jazz, rock, free improvisation, folk or hip hop, and plays in the moment. Constant communication and a smattering of confusion keeps the music fresh, exciting and (hopefully) tight over continuously evolving arrangements.

Expect improvisation, raps over nine, instant disco moments, lots of funk and jazz and, if we’re lucky, some baritone guitar.
